It brings together international tuberculosis experts to promote scientific exchange and discuss progress and relevant work directions in the fight against tuberculosis.
World TB Day
"The purpose of this day is to raise public awareness of the devastating health and socio-economic consequences of this disease. It also aims to intensify action to end the global tuberculosis epidemic. This date corresponds to the day in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch announced that he had discovered the bacillus that causes tuberculosis, and thus made it possible to consider diagnosing and curing the disease." 1
According to WHO: "Tuberculosis remains the deadliest infectious disease in the world. Every day, nearly 4500 people die of tuberculosis and nearly 30,000 contract this preventable and curable disease. It is estimated that tuberculosis control worldwide has saved 54 million people since 2000 and reduced the death rate by 42%."1
